The China Culture Center in The Hague, the Netherlands held an event showing the intangible cultural heritages of Jiangsu province to celebrate Spring Festival on Feb 1.
One of Yangzhou's intangible cultural heritages, tongcao flowers, or hand-made flowers woven from the leaves of rice paper plants, stood out at the event.
Wang Yunyu, a big supporter and a young expert of the intangible cultural heritage, taught local people the basic skills of making tongcao flowers.
"Everyone was surprised by the techniques at first. It's good to see that their works turned out to be very creative and skillful," said Wang.
"The Netherlands is known as the country of flowers. Among all the many intangible cultural heritages of Yangzhou, tongcao flowers match most with the temperament of the country, and that's why we chose it," said Li Jinfang, director of the intangible cultural heritage office of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
Wang also demonstrated Yangzhou embroidery, another intangible cultural heritage of Yangzhou, at the event.
