Some 20 "Tang Dynasty (618-907)maids and aristocrats" crossed time and space to enter the Xi'an Stele Forest Museum, the Xi'an Innovation Design Center and Xi'an City Wall to stage a fashion show of Tang style clothes on Jan 29.
The show was a part of the city's tourism industry promotion designed to attract more tourists during the upcoming Spring Festival holidays from Feb 5 to 12.
The dress show's designer was Chu Yan, an associate professor of Beijing Fashion College, who has many dazzling halos and labels, such as "the first female doctorate of Chinese fashion design", "2014 APEC leaders fashion designer", "one of China's top ten fashion designers", and "leader of Beijing's eight-minute fashion design for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games".
In developing the artistic reappearance of these Tang cultural relics and figures' costumes, Chu Yan started with the study of red dresses in the Tang Dynasty, and through analysis of the historical documents, images and unearthed cultural relics of the Tang Dynasty that made up her main research materials, reintroduced the traditional cultural color system of the Chinese costume industry and its ancient dyestuff technology. In this way she created "Tang Culture+" for the development of creative products.
"Growing up in Chang'an City, I was nurtured and nurtured by Tang culture. I also hope that more citizens and tourists can participate in the theme activities of "Tang Culture+", travel back to the Tang Dynasty, experience the colors and creations of the Tang Dynasty, its life and etiquette, and its aesthetics and spirit. Through its, charm, elegance, and temperament, they will discover the aesthetic essence of our own China," Chu told China Daily.
