Five foreign students from Nigeria, Tajikistan, Mexico and Antigua and Barbuda, all studying at Xi'an Jiaotong University, made up a high-speed rail "foreign team" to serve the passengers going back home for Spring Festival and to experience Chinese traditional culture and railway high technology.
The five foreign students, two of whom are a couple from Mexico, started their work on Jan 21 on the D1979 high-speed train traveling from Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province, to Hanzhong, another city in the province’s southwestern area, after being trained to provide appropriate services.
China Railway Xi'an Bureau Group Limited recruited some foreign students from Xi'an universities to participate in this year’s Spring Festival at some stations and aboard some trains.
The foreign crew team of the high-speed rail mainly serves on trains from Xi’an to Hanzhong and Baoji, another city of Shaanxi province, on average once a week. It takes two to three hours to make a round trip.
Blanca Luz Martinez Moreno, from Mexico, said that as an overseas student majoring in Chinese Language in Xi'an Jiaotong University, she is happy to participate in the railway Spring Festival Transport service with the most Chinese characteristics. It not only enables her to improve her oral Chinese ability but also helps her to further understand Chinese traditional culture.
“So I especially cherish this rare learning opportunity, and will continue to work hard with help from my Chinese workmates to let more Chinese tourists feel our dedicated service,” she said.
