Jinan looks to boost quantum information technology industry

Jinan, capital city of East China's Shandong province, is set to build between eight and 10 world-class research centers to bolster the development of the city's quantum information technology industry.

The government will implement a development program, the Construction Plan for Quantum Information Science Centers (2019-2025) to provide an outline for the city's innovative development in the field of quantum information technology in the next five years, according to a government press conference held on Jan 30.

The plans aims to build six research platforms in the research and testing of quantum communication, core device of quantum technology, quantum precision measurement, quantum technology standards, and quantum computing.

Jinan has lured a batch of experts, researchers and high-level talents in the field to work in the centers. A research group with 20 senior researchers will lead a research team with more than 100 talents to provide talent support for the project.

The city has also introduced a group of advantageous companies to offer technological and platform supports for the quantum information sector such as Shandong Quantum, Guoxun Quantum Core Technology Co and Gery China Quantum Lidar.

Since 2010, Jinan has paid much attention to quantum information development. The Chinese Academy of Science Quantum Technology and Applications Center was launched in Jinan in 2011 with the joint efforts of the Chinese Academy of Science, University of Science and Technology of China and the Jinan government.

Currently, the city boasts great advantages in the field of quantum communication network technology, core devices and quantum technology standardization, furthermore it is hoped that with favorable support, Jinan city will develop into a world-leading area for quantum information research and development.
