A total of 200 BYD K8S fully electric double-decker buses have served six bus lines in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, since Jan 30, offering a new travel experience to riders.
Red in color, the bus is decorated with pictures of lion dancers and peonies. Employees also posted paper-cuttings on the windows, and hung red lanterns inside the bus.
The BYD K8S is the world's first fully electric double-decker bus. It is 10.35 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 4.2 meters high. It has 51 seats, 20 more than a conventional single-story bus.
Generally, the height of the first floor of a double-decker is between 1.8 and 1.9 meters. The K8S is no exception, with its first floor being 1.9 meters tall–tall enough for passengers to avoid hitting their heads.
The bus is equipped with a new type of skylight, which can reduce PM2.5 levels inside the bus, ensuring that passengers can breathe freely.
The bus is also equipped with a series of safety measures such as an escape window, fire extinguisher, safety hammer, anti-collision beam, and front and rear door emergency switches.
The fully enclosed cab and comprehensive surveillance cameras will also help ensure the safety of passengers and drivers.
