In November 2017, Nanjing integrated all its 83 industrial parks, forming 15 high-tech industrial parks, and establishing five leading industries in the advanced manufacturing sector: new generation electronic information, green intelligent automobiles, high-end intelligent equipment, biopharmacy, and energy saving and environmental protection materials.
These industrial parks also focused on cultivating industries in the modern service sector: software and information services, finance and technological services, cultural tourism, health, modern logistics, and high-end trade and commerce.
In December 2018, all 15 industrial parks saw unified management with the common name of Nanjing New and High Technology Industry Development Zone.
In 2018, the output value of the zone's high-tech industries accounted for more than 75 percent of that of the whole city, and the output value of high-tech industries above designated scale accounted for 91 percent of that of the whole city.
According to statistics released by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Nanjing New and High Technology Industry Development Zone ranked No 20 among all 157 national-level hi-tech development zones in the country.
