The first Xinhua Bookstore in Yangzhou, East China’s Jiangsu province, was reopened after a makeover for its 70th anniversary on Jan 28.
The bookstore was transformed from the Jianguo Bookstore on Jan 28, 1949, the third day of Yangzhou city' liberation.
The renovated bookstore covers a total area of 1,766 square meters. It has become a cultural complex with multiple functions. Besides selling books, it offers short-term accomodation, exhibitions and salons. Also visitors can enjoy coffees and snacks there.
According to a staff member, dozens of activities will be held throughout the year, including public welfare activities, brand activities, culture and festival activities and literary salons.
