Winter sports season opens in Teixi, Shenyang

A winter game for families kicked off in Tiexi district, Shenyang, Liaoning province, on Jan 22, marking the beginning of the district's winter sports season.

The game is part of a winter event held by the Tiexi district which includes a handful of activities like dance and winter sports attracting hundreds of visitors.

Running for the fifth consecutive year, the event is in response to the winter sports strategy formulated by the country's General Administration of Sport, the goal of which is to get 300 million people participating in winter sports.

Wang Rongwei, deputy director of Tiexi culture, tourist and sport development center, explained that the event is expected to draw local people's attention to winter sporting activities and enable more people to understand and participate in winter sports.

More public winter sports events will be launched in other locations based on the event in Tiexi, and people from other areas are encouraged to participate in the winter fun, Wang added.
