Siqiao Reservoir, a key water resources development project in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, recently received approval from the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
The approval of this water conservancy project is the fastest of its kind in Zhejiang, said Qian Ying, deputy director of Siqiao Reservoir command office and deputy director of development and reform bureau of Kecheng district.
The project has to go through nearly 30 approval procedures involving over 10 government departments including development and reform, water conservancy, civil affairs, natural resources and planning.
The command headquarters of the project created a new working mechanism with regular meetings and reported weekly progress to ensure that the project proceeded smoothly in its early stage.
Chen Hongliang, director of Siqiao Reservoir command office and director of water conservancy bureau of Kecheng district, said that they will submit the feasibility study report of the project to the higher authority for approval after the Spring Festival, complete the resettlement of citizens at the reservoir and the planning of temporary roads in the region, and try to realize the goal of starting the construction of the project in July.
Siqiao Reservoir is designed to be multifunctional with the aim of flood prevention, irrigation, ecological environment improvement, and power generation.
Set to be located in Shiliang town, the reservoir will receive a total investment of 2.6 billion yuan ($376.8 million), and cover an area of 192.17 hectares. The total storage capacity of the reservoir is approximately 34.33 million cubic meters.
