The city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region was recognized as one of China’s top 10 self-driving tourism destinations, according to a list announced at the 2019 Annual Meeting of China’s Tourism Industry, which was held in Beijing on Jan 23.

With support from the China Newspaper Association and the media research institute at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CAS), the meeting was held by China Travel Press.

More than 400 representatives from tourism authorities across the nation, institutes, companies and media organizations attended the meeting, reviewing the achievements of China’s tourism industry over the past year and discussing trends in the industry for 2019.

A list of China’s top 10 self-driving tourism destinations was released at the meeting, with Ordos making the list. During the meeting, a promotional performance organized by the Ordos tourism authority was staged, winning approval from the audience members.

Ordos has long been renowned as the region with the most well-preserved traditional Mongolian etiquette. The Genghis Khan worship ceremony and the Ordos wedding ceremony were listed as national-level protected culture.

In recent years, the local tourism authority has been striving to develop self-driving tourism packages, and upgrade its tourism services and basic infrastructure.

The China’s Tourism Industry annual meeting, started in 2012, is an annual event held by the China Travel Press. It has evolved to be a national platform for exchanging ideas and promoting new places within China’s tourism industry.
