The Ningbo Materials Engineering School of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences started construction on Jan 23 in Zhenhai district, Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province.
It is the first school established by one of the top Chinese universities in science and technology studies outside Beijing, and is expected to be completed in 2020.
Integrating science research and education, the school will provide much support for the development of local industries.
It involves an investment amount of 700 million yuan ($103.4 million) and will cover 70,000 square meters in the core area of the Zhongguan Road Entrepreneurship and Innovation Street.
The school will introduce several senior academicians and experts from the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a prestigious scientific research institute in the city, and recruit global high-caliber talents to take on the teaching work.
"It is designed to cultivate innovative inter-disciplinary talents with international appeal to support the growth of the city's materials industry," said Yang Guoqiang, vice president of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
