Registration opened for female run

Inscriptions for the inaugural Shanghai International Women's Half Marathon started on Jan 21.

The event is an upgraded version of the previous Shanghai International Women's Elite 10K Race. It will feature a total of 4,800 runners who will start from Zhongshan Park in Changning District at 7:20am on March 24: 4,000 in the 21-kilometer half marathon and 800 in a 5km race.

According to race organizers the event aims to encourage running among women. A Chinese Athletics Association report showed that about 73 percent of regular runners in China are men.

Registration fee is 150 yuan ($22) for the half marathon and 50 yuan for 5km race. A quarter of fees go to a children's heart disease charity.
