Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport's second terminal recently received the title of "5 Star Terminal" from Skytrax, the renowned UK–based consulting firm that gives out airline and airport reviews and rankings.
Skytrax conducts research for commercial airlines and surveys international travelers in order to rate cabin staff, airports, airlines, airline lounges, in-flight entertainment, on-board catering, and several other aspects of air travel. It is dedicated to improving the quality of air travel around the world. The "5 Star Terminal" rating is Skytrax's highest rating for airport terminals and has been awarded only to a select few airports.

In December 2018, Skytrax completed its inspection and evaluation of all frontline products and employee service areas of Terminal 2 of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The terminal met the requirements of a "5 Star Terminal".
The result revealed that the terminal is among the best in the world in terms security, hygiene, charging facilities, seats, lighting, transportation, catering, and more.
Qiu Jiachen, chairman of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Company, said that the airport is more concerned with meeting the needs of passengers than contending for a glorified title. He added that the airport will promote the construction of a world-class aviation hub with world-class services.

The terminal, along with its supporting transportation center, was opened in April 2018 and covered a combined area of 880,700 square meters. It is the first environmentally friendly terminal in China to apply photovoltaic power generation on its roof. It is also the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland to use self-service check-in and luggage consignment on a large scale.
