A seminar on how to build "double first-rate" universities in Jilin province was held at Jilin University of Finance and Economics on Jan 19, hosted by the provincial education department.
Double first-rate universities refer to a government initiative to bring Chinese universities up to international standards, with world-class teaching and disciplines.
More than 400 people, including representatives from 37 universities in the province and directors responsible for helping improve standards at universities attended the event.
Since a list of the country's double first-rate universities was first announced in 2017, Jilin province has worked hard to improve standards, with 58 percent of world first-class disciplines at Jilin universities rated A, according to Xu Shibin, director of the province's educational supervision commission.
Four experts from double first-rate universities shared their experience during the event, including representatives from Beijing Jiaotong University and Tianjin University of Finance and Economics.
During a discussion, seven education experts discussed the key challenges of building double first-rate universities, giving valuable guidance and information to education workers in the province.
