Shuguang Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Shuguang Hospital, founded in 1906 and currently affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a time-honored 3A-grade hospital (the highest possible level in China's grading system for public hospitals), one of the top 10 general hospitals in Shanghai and a national demonstration base for Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment. In 2010, the hospital was responsible for part of Shanghai World Expo's medical service.

The hospital consists of eastern and western divisions, providing 1,320 beds in total. The eastern division, covering an area of 160 mu (10.67 hectares) in Zhangjiang High-tech Industrial Park, Pudong New Area, is a garden-style hospital featuring world-class patient services, a compassionate environment, digital guidance and advanced healthcare facilities. The western division, on Pu'an road, Huangpu district, has an area of 28 mu, 52,000 square meters of which are for healthcare services.

Shuguang Hospital has over 70 featured departments and specialties, including TCM osteology and traumatology, internal medicine and Chinese materia medica (prescription and pharmacology), hepatopathy, arthropathy, diabetes, gastropathy, chronic heart failure, acupuncture, and moxibustion, many of which were accredited by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM).

The hospital employs over 1,800 medical professionals and renowned experts, 32 of whom are supervisors of doctoral students and 11 who are members of state-level talent programs. At the forefront of TCM science, the hospital has established four research institutions, 14 clinical workshops and 13 R&D laboratories.

Shuguang Hospital witnessed WHO's first clinical medicine test in China, and the BBC and German broadcaster ZDF reported on the hospital's expertise in acupuncture and moxibustion. The hospital has joined hands with 20 of the world's top 500 enterprises and three international medical insurances agencies and, in the near future, the Chinese and French governments are planning to carry out a joint medical research program in the hospital.
