Caohejing Hi-Tech Park, in the southwest of Shanghai, is a state-level economic and technological development zone, a high-tech industrial zone, as well as a national export processing zone.
Covering an area of 14.28 square kilometers, the park is home to 3,600 domestic and overseas enterprises, 500 of which are foreign invested. There are 126 high-tech enterprises set up by 81 Fortune Global 500 multinationals.
Over the past 30 years, the park has developed a large-scale industry system that consists of five key sectors: new material, aerospace engineering, biological medicine, automobile R&D and clean energy, with electronic information and modern service as pillar and supporting industries, respectively.
Caohejing Hi-Tech Park is located in the southwest of Shanghai, bonded on the east by Guilin Road, south by Caobao Coad, west by Xinjinggang and north by Puhuitang. More than 20 universities and colleges are near the area, as well as some 120 research institutes, providing Caohejing access to a dense amount of talent in Shanghai.
According to the park's financial index in 2017, its regional GDP reached 113.3 billion yuan ($16.49 billion), a year-on-year increase of 14.3 percent. The sales revenue totaled 342 billion yuan, 75 percent of which came from the tertiary industry. The import and export trade volume amounted to $9.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent.
