Binjiang district of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, is pulling out all the stops to become the leading district in Hangzhou's efforts to develop its digital economy, according to a conference held on Jan 16.

In 2018, Binjiang experienced a 17 percent annual growth in the digital economy, hitting 280 billion yuan ($41.38 billion) in revenue. The internet of things, information software and e-commerce industries also achieved a 20 percent growth or above, the government report says.

According to the report, the district will seek breakthroughs in core technologies, cultivate a batch of clusters and platforms for digital industries, and improve its information infrastructure by leveraging the starting advantages of Hangzhou in its digital economy.

To achieve the goal, Binjiang highlighted the importance of urban digitalization, which means to build a comprehensive intelligent center covering urban management, public security, water regulation and fire prevention by tapping into the potential of digital City Brain, an intelligent system for urban management in Hangzhou.

In the meantime, the district will ramp up efforts in advanced industries including big data, blockchains, artificial intelligence, digital security and network security, internet of things, IC chip design, and cloud computing.

More efforts will also be made in promoting the development of emerging industries.

Looking to the future, the district is eyeing to realize revenue of 300 billion yuan in digital economy in 2019.
