First-level border ports in Inner Mongolia

Excepting Manzhouli and Ereenhot ports, a brief introduction to other first-level border ports in Inner Mongolia autonomous region follows.

Arihashate Port is a highway port in Xin Barga Right Banner, Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia. It is 200 kilometers from Manzhouli. The port has been a trade passage between the region and Mongolia since ancient times.

The port was approved by the regional government to be a temporary checkpoint in September 1989. On June 24, 1992, it was officially opened seasonally as a first-level port after the approval of the State Council with its counterpart in Dornod province, Mongolia. It operates annually from Jan 6 to 25 and April 1 to Oct 31.

Zhuengabuda Port is a highway port in Dong Ujimchin Banner, Xiliin Gol League. It borders Mongolia and was approved to open by the State Council in 1992. It started to open all year round since 2008.

Ganqimaodao Port is a highway port in Urad Middle Banner, Bayannuur. The port is only 2 km from the border with Mongolia. It was approved to open as a first-level seasonal port on June 24, 1992. In 2004, it was upgraded as an all-year-open port.

Hohhot Aviation Port refers to Hohhot Baita Airport in Hohhot, the capital of the region. The airport, launched on Oct 1, 1958, was approved as a port by the State Council on Dec 1, 1991. On March 31, 1992, the port started operations.

The port launched the international express business in 2015. According to the Commerce Bureau of Hohhot, from January to May 2018, the port handled 373,000 international packages weighing 983.6 tons.

Hailaar Aviation Port is in Dongshan Airport in Hailaar, Hulunbuir. The port is near Manzhouli and is only 5 km from the downtown area. The port was opened on Sept 15, 1995. The international route from the port to Chita, Russia was launched in May 1996.

Heishantou Port is situated on the eastern bank of the Argun River at the border between China and Russia. The port was opened in 1990 after the approval of the State Council. It helps not only to export green products from Hulunbuir but also to relieve the cargo handling pressure at Manzhouli Port.

Shiwei Port is also on the mid-eastern bank of the Argun River. It is only 1 km from its corresponding port in Russia. The port was approved as a first-level port by the State Council in April 1989 and officially opened on Feb 1, 1991. Major imports and exports through the port include mineral resources and timber.
