GUANGZHOU, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province will continue to promote green development, and it plans to raise its natural gas consumption to 28 billion cubic meters by 2020, according to a local government plan.
The provincial government recently released a scheme for 2018 to 2020 for winning the war against air pollution and making the skies blue. The scheme said that the energy structure of the province needs to be optimized and that green clean energy systems should be built up.
It said that the expansion of the natural gas consumption market and the increase of natural gas consumption have been major goals of the province's energy structure adjustment since 2016.
The new scheme requires increasing the natural gas supply and laying the pipeline network to reach more cities. In the Pearl River Delta area, gas pipeline network needs to be laid for industrial parks and major enterprises who are in need of natural gas.
The province will also speed up the construction of gas storage facilities, with its capacity of natural gas supply increasing to 50 billion cubic meters by 2020. The government will give priority to civilian use in terms of the newly increased natural gas.
