Set up by the Chongqing municipal government in March 2003, Chongqing Hechuan Industrial Park was approved to be one of the first batch of city-level characteristic industrial parks in Chongqing by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Viewed as the north gate of Chongqing, Hechuan district is adjacent to Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area, and it is also a main channel and economic corridor to the regions and provinces of Northwest China. Hechuan also serves as a traffic hub in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, an initiative launched by Sichuan province and Chongqing to promote the economic growth of China's western region.
In 2018, the government approved the founding of Chongqing Hechuan High-tech Industrial Development Zone, bringing a great opportunity to the high-tech enterprises in the park. The park has since enhanced the environment for innovation and fostered cutting edge enterprises and companies, and it is now home to 67 national high-tech enterprises.
Over years of development, the park has cultivated three leading industries: equipment manufacturing, electronic information, and medicine and health. In 2017, the gross industrial output value above designated size of its three leading industries totaled 49 billion yuan ($7.33billion), an increase of 32.6 percent year-on-year. The output value of its strategic emerging industries accounted for 18 percent of the gross industrial output value above designated size.
