Nansha among 2018 top 30 national economic development zones

In a 2018 assessment and evaluation by the Ministry of Commerce of the comprehensive development levels of the country's national economic and technological development zones, the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone and the Guangzhou Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone, two representatives of Guangdong, ranked among the top 30. The results affirm the efforts made by the two zones in the past year in terms of quality and efficiency, technological innovation capability, and regional and green development.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Commerce, the assessment of the comprehensive development level of the 219 national economic development zones in 2018 is the Ministry of Commerce's comprehensive "physical examination" and a quantitative evaluation based on industrial foundation, technological innovation, regional driving, ecological environmental protection and administrative efficiency.

A national-level economic development zone has the characteristics of“four improvements and one excellence”: solid industrial foundation, continuous improvement of quality and efficiency, accelerated cultivation of innovative subjects, innovation-driven development capability, formation of coordinated development, regional improvement, energy conservation and emission reduction, level of green development, management level, and optimization of business environment.　　

In the top 30 national comprehensive list of economic development zones, the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone ranked the second and the Guangzhou Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone ranked 16.

The Guangzhou Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone reported that the industrial clustering effect formed after the listing of the Free Trade Zone is the driving force behind the ranking of the district. In the three years since the listing Nansha has accumulated 127 projects invested by Fortune 500 companies.

In 2018, Nansha brought in 31 investment projects of Fortune 500 companies such as the Haier Intelligent Manufacturing Center, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area International Distribution Center Project, and the CREC Commercial Factoring Center.

With the further improvement of the business environment in Nansha, market vitality is further stimulated. Since the listing of the Free Trade Zone, the number of registered enterprises has increased from 8,400 to 91,230, a nearly ten-fold increase. From January to November 2018, there were 33,705 new enterprises in the Nansha Free Trade Zone, a year-on-year increase of 68%, and newly added registered capital increased by 89%.

The Ministry of Commerce also said that the establishment of a national-level economic development zone is a major innovation in China's reform and opening up. Since the establishment of the first national economic development zones in 1984, they have been an advanced manufacturing cluster and regional economic growth pole making outstanding contributions to China's reform, opening up and modernization.
