Hangzhou projects take national science and technology awards

Three projects from Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, were honored with prizes among 278 awarded programs in the 2018 State Science and Technology Award Conference held in Beijing on Jan 8.

Developed by Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Research and Development Center Co, a project focusing on the key techniques and applications of homogeneous ion exchange membrane was awarded with the second prize of the State Technology Invention Award, while other two projects on the steam turbine and medical research won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Seven science and technology experts won China's top science award for their outstanding contributions to scientific and technological innovation.

Held annually since 2000, the State Science and Technology Award is the most prestigious award for Chinese science and technology researchers.

It is offered in five categories, including the State Natural Science Award, State Technology Invention Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award, International Science and Technology Cooperation Award for distinguished foreign scientists who have made significant contributions to China, and the most prestigious award of them all, the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award.
