Quzhou returnee awarded for revitalizing rural area

Rao Shengnan, a returnee from Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has been recently recognized as a rural revitalization contributor in the province.

Rao took the position as marketing manager in a Moscow travel agency after graduating from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2006.

However, she suffered from homesickness, and with her parents becoming older, in 2013 she decided to go back home and take over her parents' farmland.

The female returnee established the company Quzhou Taoguju Ecological Agriculture Development Co Ltd on her family farmland.

She also modernized the traditional farmland, which now includes a testing room to detect the safety of their farm products before hitting the market and monitoring databases for local weather, soil and crops.

The Quzhou native also established an eco-farming system on her farmland where the leaves of rotten vegetables are used to feed poultry, with their excrement used to fertilize the farmland's soil.

In 2016 Rao's farmland became one of the suppliers for the G20 Hangzhou Summit, a great seal of approval for the quality of her produce.

Rao also developed rural tourism based on her farmland and her hometown, bringing more revenue for local residents.
