Little Three Gorges, Wushan
(巫山小三峡 xiǎo sān xiá)
Little Three Gorges in Wushan county, Chongqing, refers to the three gorges at Daning River, the largest branch of Yangtze River. It is among the first national 5A-level scenic spots. Some believe its beauty has overshadowed that of the Three Gorges.
Little Three Gorges consist of Longmen (Dragon Gate) Gorge, Bawu (Misty) Gorge, and Dicui (Dripping Green) Gorge. Together they extend over 50 kilometers at the lower reaches of Daning River. The area boasts steep peaks, unique landforms, historical relics and poetic scenery.
The 8-kilometer-long Longmen (Dragon Gate) Gorge got its name from the high-rising cliffs that face each other along opposite banks.
Bawu Gorge, which means Misty Gorge in Chinese, is 10 km in length and known for the drifting mist in spring and summer.
