Longgang Geological Park, Yunyang
(云阳龙缸 yún yáng lóng gāng)
Situated in Yunyang county, Chongqing, Longgang is a national geological park and 5A-level (top class) scenic spot. Tourists call it the last "Shangri-La" in the Three Gorges area and a miniature of Huashan Mountain in Shaanxi province.
The geological park abounds with karst sinkholes (Tiankeng), valleys, caves, meadows, forests and ethnic cultures. The major attractions are Longgang Tiankeng, Skywalk on Clouds, Loong (Chinese Dragon) Cave, Qishan Meadow, Qiyang Pass Ancient Road and more. The naturally formed Longgang Tiankeng is the world's fifth deepest karst sinkhole. Its 335-meter-high vertical wall is a rare scene for similar landforms.
Another famous attraction is the Skywalk on Clouds. The transparent horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge is built at an altitude of 1,123 meters, with a vertical drop of 718 meters directly under the skywalk to the ground. The bridge has a cantilever extending to 26.68 meters, 5.34 meters longer than the world famous Grand Canyon Skywalk in Arizona near the Colorado River. From there, tourists can enjoy a panoramic view of the whole scenic area. The skywalk was the host site of the 2018 World Low-Altitude Parachute Jump Contest.
