Shanxi province received 4.27 million visitors and earned tourism revenues of 2.23 billion yuan ($324.66 million) for the three-day New Year’s holiday period between Dec 30 and Jan 1.
The province reported that the rise in visitor numbers represents year-on-year growth of 17.97 percent; and a 19.99 percent rise for tourism revenues.
During the holiday, Shanxi welcomed 1.38 million overnight visitors and 2.89 million day-trippers, tallying up annual rises of 16.82 percent and 18.54 percent respectively.
Short trips and self-driving tours accounted for the majority of visits to Shanxi during the holiday. Visiting rural areas, hot springs, and taking part in ice and snow activities proved particularly popular this year, with many flocking to see some of the province's signature attractions.
