Inner Mongolia Intelligent Logistics Park started operations at Horinger New Area in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Dec 28.

The park, built by retail giant JD, is the second of its kind in the country.

Covering an area of 600 square meters, the area features a JD e-commerce business center, a regional purchasing center, and demonstration bases for its intelligent logistics, unmanned stores, and driverless delivery vehicles.

JD will use the park as a demonstration zone for its latest technologies in areas such as sorting and delivery.

Yang Jing, a manager at JD, said that the park has started trial operations on Nov 11 and offers a smart and quick logistics experience for local residents.

She explained that increasing numbers of delivery robots and drones will be employed at the core area of Horinger New Area in the future with expectations of increasing package volume.

These robots and drones are expected to solve the “last mile problem” in delivery, helping to demonstrate the introduction of intelligent logistics into future plans of smart cities.

The operation of the park is of great importance to the development of the logistics industry in the area, according to the local government.

During the past few years, Horinger New Area has pushed to implement the operation of intelligent logistics programs to serve the local people. It has also promoted the integration of intelligent logistics programs with the e-commerce industry.
