Statistics released by the Inner Mongolia government on Dec 26, 2018 reveal that 23 million local people were lifted out of poverty in 2018.
In 2018, Inner Mongolia invested 3.945 billion yuan ($574 million) into poverty alleviation and focused on providing a guaranteed income for poor residents. Meanwhile, the government of the autonomous region promoted poverty alleviation through the photovoltaic, e-commerce and tourism industries, helping 148,000 people get out of poverty by starting their own businesses and provided jobs for 16,581 local residents.
To tackle poverty the government focused on issuing 1.9 billion yuan of microfinance loans and relocating 41,500 residents. In addition, the government hired 11,500 people as forest rangers with a 10,000-yuan subsidy per person per year.
Subsidized health care also helped with poverty alleviation, as people in the province qualify for a reimbursement ratio of up to 90 percent on hospitalization medical expenses.
