Zhanjiang was recently listed as one of the 127 cities to host national logistic hubs in a plan released by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport.

"Logistics hub" refers to logistics facilities complexes and logistics activity organization centers that engage in the distribution, storage, allocation and transfer of cargo. Those with national status are regarded as core infrastructure of the logistics system and have a wider reach, stronger aggregation power, better services and higher efficiency.

The 127 selected cities are tasked with developing a total of 212 logistics hubs divided into six categories – land ports, harbor ports, airports, service-oriented ports, commerce and trade-oriented ports and land border ports. Zhanjiang will focus on the establishment of a harbor port.

According to the plan, about 30 hubs will be established by 2020 and another 150 by 2025, reducing the ratio of total logistics expenses to GDP to about 12 percent. A national network of logistics hubs is planned to take shape by 2035 in response to China's modernized economic system.
