Xiamen to construct smart city

Xiamen is set to construct a fully-fledged smart city and complete its artificial intelligence industry chain, according to an action plan recently released by the local government.

The Action Plan on Development of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Industry Chain in Xiamen (2019-2021) states that in the next three years Xiamen will invest more than 200 million yuan ($29 million) in developing key technologies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Two or more public service platforms are expected to be established for the research and development of common technologies and the marketization of these technologies.

Local government will apply the to-be-developed AI technologies to the manufacturing, transport, public information security, finance and health care industries, and then expand their applications to education, household appliances and tourism.

The Chinese city will house three influential AI industry gathering areas with complete supporting facilities and more than 50 AI companies, five of which lead AI sub-fields with a total output of 10 billion yuan, says the action plan.

Xiamen also plans to introduce 50 or so leading talents in the new generation AI industry and cultivate 1,000 more.
