Changchun University of Chinese Medicine

Changchun University of Chinese Medicine (CCUCM), founded in 1958, is a key university of northwest China's Jilin province, specializing in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and developing medicine, industry, management, law, arts, and other disciplines in a coordinated manner. It was co-founded by the Jilin provincial government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The school covers an area of 571,000 square meters and a building area of 395,000 sq m. The total value of its teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 310 million yuan ($44.95 million).

Today, the CCUCM has 12,454 full-time students, including 8,914 undergraduates and 1,673 postgraduates. Among 1,114 staff, there are 686 full-time teachers, 157 of them with senior professional titles, 304 sub-senior professional personnel, 76 doctoral supervisors and 449 master's supervisors. It is home to three national masters of TCM, one Bethune Medal winner, one chief scientist of the Program 973 (a national science and technology project), four National Teacher Excellence Award winners, two nationally renowned doctors of TCM, two renowned teachers of TCM higher learning colleges and universities, 30 personnel enjoying special government allowance from the State Council, two personnel supported by the Ministry of Education's Program for New Century Excellent Talent, and 25 tutors of inheritance work of TCM experts.

The CCUCM has 18 undergraduate majors, two mobile stations for postdoctoral students in first-level disciplines, two first-level disciplines for doctoral degree, one discipline for professional doctoral degree, 10 second-level disciplines for doctoral degree, six first-level disciplines for master's degree, 40 second-level disciplines for master's degree and five disciplines for professional master's degree, 19 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, two particularly key disciplines of Jilin province, three provincial characteristic key disciplines in harmony with the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) and 19 provincial key disciplines of the SATCM.

The talent training system of undergraduate education, graduate education, higher vocational education, continuing education and oversea student education is well-founded and qualified to grant doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees. Since the CCUCM's began it has cultivated more than 40,000 graduates for the country, and has numerous alumni at home and abroad.

There are four national-level characteristic majors, one national-level comprehensive reform pilot majors, six brand specialties at provincial level and eight provincial-level characteristic majors, along with two national-level quality resources-sharing courses, three national-level excellent courses, and one national-level innovation experimental zone based on personnel training. It is the chief editor of eight textbooks of the 12th Five-Year Plan and 41 textbooks for industry plan of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).

The CCUCM is an education base for college students' cultural quality, for the nationwide publicity of TCM culture, the national popularization of science, and for primary and secondary school research and practice.

The school boasts strong scientific research strengths and has reached a more complete scientific research system of TCM.

It has been responsible for 46 major scientific and technological projects, such as the ongoing national key research and development plan project, the Program 973 (a national science and technology project), and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Fruitful results have emerged, including 430 high-level scientific research achievements, one provincial special prize of teaching achievement, three first prizes of sci-tech progress at provincial level, and a provincial first prize for outstanding achievement in social sciences.

Thanks to 68 national and provincial scientific research platforms, the integration of university, research, and industry to serve local economic and social development has been successful.

The CCUCM was one of the first institutions approved by the Ministry of Education to enroll international students and students from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, including international students under the Chinese Government Scholarship Programs. Academically, the school maintains long-term friendly exchanges and cooperation with universities and research institutes in 21 countries and regions.
