A multi-ethnic area, where Han, Manchu, Korean and Mongolian people live in a compact community, Jilin boasts abundant cultural resources.
The province is also advanced in science, technology and education. There are 121 research institutes in Jilin, including the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Machinery and Physics, and the Changchun Institute of Allied Chemistry, which is affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as 58 universities and colleges, including Jilin University, one of the top ten universities in China.
