Jinan Economic Development Zone is a provincial-level zone approved by the Shandong municipal government. Located in the southwest of Jinan, the zone plays an important role in driving the development of the southwest area of Shandong and linking the Central China area.
The zone runs east as far as the Jinan-Heze Highway and the extension of Liuchangshan Road, which is next to Jinan University Science Park and Jinan Agricultural Hi-Tech Park. It runs north as far as the reserved land for the railway, also linking with the Jixi National Wetland Park and West Bus Terminal. It reaches the main canal for south-to-north water transfer in the west, which is adjacent to the Yellow River beach area.
Since its establishment in September 2000, the zone has worked to become an area with a highly developed industrial economy, clustering hi-tech industries and well-developed supporting facilities. It has insisted on investing more, building more and developing further, has kept adjusting its industrial structure, and has expanded fields for attracting investment. It has also increased investments in infrastructure. A well-developed transport network has been formed. The zone now has more than 170 enterprises, a result of its ability to attract investment.
It has also formed three industrial clusters featuring mechanical equipment manufacturing, food manufacturing and electronics, among which the mechanical equipment manufacturing industry has developed most quickly. It has brought in a batch of giants in high-end equipment manufacturing, printing and packaging, food and modern service industries, including CNPC Jichai Power Equipment Co, Dazhong Press Group, Jinan Jiabao Dairy Co, and Pang Da Automobile Trade Co. It has been named as the "machine manufacturing center in Central and West Shandong", a "provincial-level high-end equipment manufacturing industrial demonstration zone", a "provincial-level international service outsourcing demonstration base", Shandong Software Industrial Park, Qilu Culture Industrial Park and a “national animation industrial base”. It has formed four pillar industries: high-end equipment manufacturing, printing and packaging, food, and modern service.
The zone enjoys convenient transport, with four exits of the Beijing-Fuzhou Highway and the Jinan-Guangzhou Highway in its area. It is only 15 minutes' drive to the Jinan West Bus Terminal. Metro R1 and national highways 104 and 220 pass across the zone. It is only 40 minutes' drive to the Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport and four hours' drive to Qingdao Port. The Jixi Wetland Park and Jinan Horticulture Expo Garden boast beautiful landscapes, a pleasant climate, fresh air and high-quality groundwater resources. It is adjacent to the University Science Park that houses 12 universities and colleges such as Shandong Normal University, Shandong University of Arts, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shandong Jiaotong University and Cheeloo University, and is also next to Innovation Valley which serves as a new base for innovation and entrepreneurship. It boasts rich cultural and technological resources, and strong driving forces for innovation.
