A Xiamen delegation headed by Wang Qiongwen, director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Conference and Exhibition, visited Kaohsiung and Taitung of Taiwan on Dec 20-21 to seek closer economic and trade links with the island.
Conferences promoting the 2019 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) and 2019 Xiamen Industry Exposition (XMIE) took place in the two cities, with attendance of more than 50 representatives from local authorities, businesses and associations.
Wang Qiongwen said that the CIFIT and XMIE are two significant platforms for deepening cross-Straits cooperation and exchanges and that Kaohsiung and Taitung will have broader economic development prospects after the nine-in-one elections, expressing the hope that the exhibition platforms in Xiamen could help boost economic growth in the two cities.
Taitung is a county with a long history of traditional agriculture, he noted, adding that Xiamen aspires to strengthen collaboration with Taitung in terms of modern agriculture through the CIFIT.
Wide consensus were also reached among the guests present, including Kuo Kuosheng, vice president of the Taiwan Industrial and Commercial Construction Research Association, Mao Enkuang, deputy secretary general of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association and Jao Ch'ingling, head of Taitung.
They agreed that Taiwan and Xiamen should expand interactions, advance industrial integration and inaugurate a new chapter of cooperation and exchanges between the two places
