Hohhot takes measures to protect Zhao Great Wall

Authorities responsible for Saihan district in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, are set to announce new measures to protect the Zhao Great Wall, according to local media reports on Dec 21.

The local government says that it will increase the number of inspectors employed and establish more protection units to preserve the relics of the Great Wall, which was built during the Warring States period (475-221 BC). 

More warning signs will also be erected to alert members of the public to the importance of protecting the ancient structure.

The Zhao Great Wall stretches for 4,588 kilometers across Inner Mongolia autonomous region and was included in the list of cultural relics under national protection.

Hohhot, as the capital city of the region, is home to the largest number of Great Wall relics in Inner Mongolia, with its number reaching 1,096.

According to the government, as of now, the city employs 166 people to protect cultural relics and has built 14 protection units.
