Located in Hefei, capital city of Anhui province, and established in 1959, Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, originally known as Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (HUTCM), is a national clinical research base, a national (Anhui-based) modern technology center for Chinese medicine, an international cooperation base for the promotion of Chinese medicine, a national base for clinical drug research, a doctoral degree-conferring unit, and a unit for master's student recommendation and exemption. The Anhui Academy of Chinese Medicine, consisting of ten research institutes, is affiliated to the university.
HUTCM covers a total area of 1,171 mu (78.07 hectare), and has three campuses. The university now has over 14,820 full-time students at all levels, including 1,246 postgraduate students.
There are over 3,000 academic staff for teaching and/or research, over 160 professors or equivalent academic title holders, over 300 associate professors or equivalent academic title holders,31doctoral supervisors, 472 master's supervisors and 26 tutors in the project for academic and experiential heritage including nationally renowned and senior doctors of Chinese medicine.
Additionally, there are 61domestically and internationally well-known experts and scholars working as visiting professors at the university.
The university offers diverse courses in its 24 bachelor's programs (which include five national key courses funded by the Ministry of Education of China), two doctoral degree programs of Level-1discipline, four master's degree programs of Level-1discipline, 25 master's degree programs of Level-2 discipline, and four programs that award professional rather than academic master's degrees.
The university library, a National Key Unit for Ancient Book Protection, claims a collection of two million books, including 33,000 thread-bound ancient books stored in the Ancient Book Department. The Centre of Chinese Medicine Specimens is the most special specimen pavilion with the richest collections of medical specimens among all the medical colleges and universities throughout the country. It has 150,000 medicinal plant specimens.
The university has established solid partnerships for exchange and cooperation with 41 medical and educational institutions of more than 20 countries and districts, such as the United States and Australia.
Students from more than 20 countries and regions come to study in the university either for a bachelor's degree, or for a master's degree, or for clinical internship. The university also performs staff and/or student-exchange programs with universities in the United States, Australia, Sweden, Singapore, Japan and South Korea.
