The sculptures, featuring overweight women in gravity-defying and dynamic poses, were created by Xu Hongfei, head of the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy, and represent the indomitable spirit of the Guangzhou people, including their fearlessness when it comes to innovation.
The exhibition is part of the 2018 Guangzhou Cultural Week, an event designed to promote Guangzhou culture around the world. It contains a total of 15 sculptures and will run until Dec 24.
Guangzhou Culture Week, since its inception at the end of 2016, has held nearly 50 cultural activities overseas to increase the global exposure of Guangzhou culture. The activities have attracted nearly one million people from over 18 countries.
The "plump woman" sculpture exhibition has been held in 30 places around the world, with Greece being its 30th destination. Xu hoped that the people of Greece could find meaning in his exhibits.
