(滕王阁旅游区 téng wáng gé lyǔ yóu qū)

Tengwang Pavilion, reputed as “the first pavilion in the west of the south of Yangtze River,” was initially built in the fourth year of the Yonghui Period in Tang Dynasty by Li Yuanying, who was a young brother of Li Shimin, the first emperor of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), when he ruled as the Military Governor of Hongzhou Prefecture.

It is well-known in history due to The Preface to Tengwang Pavilion, an article written by Wang Bo, a celebrated poet during the early Tang Dynasty.

Tengwang Pavilion Scenic Area covers an area of 4.16 hectares. Facing Ganjiang River and neighboring the city, adjacent to Nanpu, Tengwang Pavilion is a great building imitating the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, which is only hundreds of miles away from its old site in the Tang Dynasty. The main pavilion boasts nine floors with a net height 57.5 meters and a total area of 13,000 square kilometers with features refelective of the magnificent style of a Tang Dynasty pavilion.

Inside the pavilion, exhibitions demonstrate proudly the splendid culture of Jiangxi province.
