Binglanggu Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park, Hainan
(槟榔谷文化旅游区 bīn láng gǔ)
Hainan Binglanggu (Betelnut Valley) Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park is situated in the nature reservation area between Sanya city and Baoting county. The heritage park covers about 333 hectares and attracts more than 1.2 million tourists every year.
Meaning "betelnut valley", the name "Binglanggu" came from the sea of ancient betelnut trees that stretches along the valley. It is a multicultural tourist spot combining sightseeing, customs experiences, cultural carnivals and recreational activities, together with a grand performance featuring the Li and Miao cultures.
Visitors may indulge themselves in appreciating folk customs, dancing to ethnic melodies, enjoying ethnic foods and experiencing traditional lodging. Binglanggu is the only tourist resort themed on primitive and ecological ethnic culture, and has made a great contribution to the exploring, preservation and promoting of aboriginal heritage.
The park also exhibits many intangible cultural items, some of which have entered UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage, making it a live museum preserving the colorful aboriginal culture of Hainan province. In July 2015, the park was listed as a national 5A scenic spot, the first of its type in China.
