The city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region has been listed as a national demonstration center for transforming and upgrading foreign trade, according to a recent announcement by the Ministry of Commerce at a forum on upgrading foreign trade in the clothing industry held in Shishi city, Fujian province.
The listing of the city is largely down to its competitive cashmere industry. And along with Ordos, 53 other cities were also listed for their foreign trade.
A center for transforming and upgrading foreign trade is an industrial agglomeration area, economic development zone, high-tech development zone or a special customs controlling area, which is recognized by the Ministry of Commerce as a demonstration center with a completed public service system and great potential for development.
In 2017, the Ministry of Commerce started the process of choosing candidates for the honor. Those that made it onto the list now qualify for certain national preferential policies.
