Langshan Mountain, Shaoyang
(邵阳市崀山景区shào yáng láng shān jǐng qū)
As one of China's National Geological Parks, Langshan Mountain is famous for its unique Danxia landscape. Danxia means "Crimson Glow” in Chinese, a rare topographical feature. Huge dark red rocks with grotesque shapes give tourists a marvelous sight. It is located in Xinning county, about 500 kilometers away from Changsha, capital of Hunan province. In the south, Langshan Mountain is connected with Guilin, and in the north it transitions into Zhangjiajie. Covering an area of 108 square kilometers, Langshan Mountain is filled with rich natural scenery and abundant tourism resources. There are more than 500 scenic spots in Langshan Mountain. Among them the most famous are Tianyi Lane, Chili Peak, Zixia Cave, Fuyi River, Innate Bridge, Octagonal Castle, Emperor Xun Forest Park and the Xicun Ancient Dwelling.
Langshan Danxia landform and the evolution of its climate and features are representatives of Earth's progression through natural history in Southeast Asia since the Cretaceous period, and also represent the evolution process of the earth crust and the ancient environmental changes of southeast China over the last 100 million years. It is considered to be an excellent example of geological history that can be observed with the naked eye.
In 2010, Langshan Mountain was listed as a World Nature Heritage.
