Work on a carnival park made entirely out of ice and snow started on the frozen Songhua River in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, on Dec 16.
The park is a public benefit project organized by Harbin Modern Group Co to promote winter tourism in the northern city.
It will occupy an area of 100,000 square meters and feature six different areas for ice and snow entertainment activities.
Additional facilities such as skating rinks, snow soccer fields and ice hockey fields will also be built using the ice.
Around 5,000 cubic meters of ice and 10,000 cubic meters of snow will be cut and delivered to the park for the building work.
Tourists will have free access to the park and will be provided with sports equipment once it opens, which is scheduled to be Jan 1.
