Yimeng Mountains, Linyi
(沂蒙山旅游区 yí méng shān lǚ yóu qū)
The Yimeng Mountains Tourist Area in Linyi, located in the central southern area of Shandong province, is composed of three parts, namely the national 5A-level Yishan Mountain Scenic Area, and the 4A-level Guimeng and Yunmeng scenic areas of Mengshan Mountain, covering a total area of 148 square kilometers.
Known as a natural oxygen bar, Yimeng Mountains have beautiful natural scenery and rich ecological resources, with the forest coverage reaching more than 95 percent. It has over 300 scenic spots, including waterfalls, rare stones and a plank walkway.
The mountains are the cradle of Dongyi culture, from the ancient tribes in Eastern China from the Neolithic Age 8,300 years ago to the Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771 BC). It has dozens of relics of the neolithic Dawenkou and Longshan cultures. The Great Wall of Qi, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, is also located in the area.
The mountains served as one of the major ceremonial centers of ancient China, with 16 emperors from 10 dynasties holding worship ceremonies and offering sacrifices to Heaven there. Enshrined by such ceremonies, it also attracted believers of both Confucianism and Taoism, men of letters and celebrities whose residence and visits left numerous places of interest.
