Taining Global Geopark, Fujian province
(三明市泰宁风景旅游区 sān míng shì tài níng fēng jǐng lyǔ yóu qū)
Taining Global Geopark in Taining county, Sanming, East China’s Fujian province, covers 492.5 square kilometers, around half of which are Danxia landforms in addition to different kinds of geological features including granite, canyons and lakes. The park was listed in the second batch of World Geoparks by UNESCO on Feb 11, 2005.
The park is mainly composed of Shiwang Valley, Golden Lake, Eight-fairy Cliff, Jin'rao Mountain and Taining Ancient Town. These scenic spots are dotted around Taining county and can be reached in half an hour by bus. Among them, Golden Lake is the must-see one.
Sailing in the crystal-clean lake, visitors can view not only the Danxia landforms of 80 million years old but also granite rocks dating back 400 million years. In addition, a series of cultural sites such as the Ganluyan temple, stone carvings and Buddha-like stones, also add human significance to the natural scenery.
