Located at the foot of Jinyun Mountain in Beibei district, the Chongqing Natural History Museum was designed with a concept from nature -- the spreading roots of ficus virens, the official city tree of Chongqing.
Chongqing Natural History Museum is a time-honored museum, whose predecessors were the Science Academy of West China that was founded in 1930 by the patriotic businessman Lu Zuofu (1893-1952) and the West Museum of China, a cooperative amalgamated with the Chinese West Academy and more than ten other famous institutions in 1943.
The museum contains six permanent exhibitions: Animal Planet, Dinosaur World, Landscape Metropolis, Earth Mystery, Life Stream, and Ecological Homeland, which display the evolution of the earth and life, biodiversity, as well as the natural history of Chongqing. They expound on the relationships between natural resources, the environment and human activities, advocating a harmony of humans and nature and sustainable development.
