The Jing Gang Shan Revolution Museum in the Jinggang Mountains was built to commemorate the first rural revolutionary base founded by the Chinese Communist Party in 1927. It first opened to the public in 1959. In 2007 the new building was completed, and was opened to the public with free admission.

The museum boasts a collection of about 30,000 cultural relics, over 20,000 precious documents and historical photos, more than 1,000 paintings and calligraphic works by national leaders and artists, and hundreds of video clips documenting China's founding fathers including Mao Zedong (1893-1976) and Zhu De (1886-1976) visiting Jinggang Mountains after the founding of the People 's Republic of China.

Employing modern media to create an immersive experience, the basic display shows the history of how Chinese proletarian revolutionaries successfully applied the general principles of Marxism to the Chinese revolution, and elaborates on the unique Chinese revolutionary path known as ”encircling the cities from rural areas, seizing power by armed forces”.

Most of the auxiliary sites of the museum are distributed in Ciping and Wujing (five villages in Jinggangshan, all of which are in the shape of a well). The five major sentries in the Jinggang Mountains Revolutionary Base still preserve relics of the defense work of the 4th Army of the Chinese Red Army.
