Wenchuan, Aba Tibetan-Qiang autonomous prefecture
阿坝州汶川特别旅游区 (ā bà zhōu wèn chuān tè bié lyǔ yóu qū)
Wenchuan special tourist area, located in the northwest area of Sichuan Basin, is in Aba Tibetan-Qiang autonomous prefecture.
Covering 2,423 square kilometers, the tourist area is formed by Sanjiang county, Yingxiu county and Shuimo town. It was built in memory of the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.
It enjoys abundant natural resources and an amazing landscape, with comprehensive national natural reserves for alpine forest ecosystems and rare wild animals, such as pandas who live in the area.
Apart from splendid natural scenery, the area also showcases the rich ethnic culture of the Qiang, Zang and Han ethnic groups. Traditional folk arts, such as Tibetan stone carvings and Tibetan fragrance, are displayed in the area to promote local culture.
