The upscale luxury hotel St. Regis Zhuhai opened in Hengqin Shizimen Central Business District across the waterway from Macao on Oct 18, adding a sumptuously elegant touch to the City of Romance.
The RMJM RED-designed hotel, situated on the 41st-72nd floors of the 330-m Zhuhai Tower, enjoys a breathtaking view of Zhuhai and Macao's bustling cityscapes. Inspired by classic modern European manors, it features wide use of St. Regis diamond patterns and gemstone elements.
Champagne sabering ritual
On offer are 251 exquisite guesthouses, 34 oversized suites, and one presidential suite of over 1,100 sq m (.27 acre). All are equipped with classic St. Regis beds, Frette beddings, as well as spa-level bathtubs.
Its signature coveted Bloody Mary cocktail, a spicy 1934 vodka-and-tomato juice concoction invented at the St. Regis New York's King Cole Bar, goes native and uses local raw materials like Yunv (Fisher Maiden) oyster sauce, and Guanniang plum wine.
Lobby
The evening ritual, which can be traced back to Napoleon, who had a penchant for opening champagne with his saber in both victory and defeat, also has a new interpretation. It starts at 6 pm in the 41st floor lobby with the melody of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. Butlers in black and white knight's cloaks saber the champagne and toast guests upon the arrival of the night at the climax of the music.
On the culinary front, Italian chefs with experience at Michelin restaurants prepare dishes at the banquet hall on the 72nd floor.
Exquisite guestroom
The hotel is the outcome of cooperation between builder-investor Huafa Holdings Group and management firm Marriott International. It is expected to enhance Zhuhai's convention and tourism hospitality capabilities and breathe new life to the local high-end modern service sector.
