Tongli Ancient Town, Suzhou
苏州市同里古镇景区 (sū zhōu shì tóng lǐ gǔ zhèn jǐng qū)
Built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Tongli is home to many kinds of cultural relics and historic sites, including well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).
It is also rich in culture. In the long run of its history, it was once famed for its achievements in imperial examinations and has produced famous Confucianists and other notable people.
As a famous thousand-year historic and cultural town, Tongli is the only ancient town listed in the provincial-level cultural relic protection units at town level.
Its famous scenic spot, Tuisi Garden, was listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO. In 2010, it was evaluated to a national 5A tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.
