The Memorial Museum of Comrade Liu Shaoqi (1898-1969), part of the Scenic Area of Liu Shaoqi’s Birthplace, is located in the village of Tanzichong, 50 kilometers west of Changsha, capital of Hunan province, and 30 kilometers from the former residence of the late Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976) in Shaoshan. The route between the two memorials is one of the most significant for Chinese revolutionary history and tourism in Hunan province.
A centerpiece of the scenic area, the Memorial Museum of Comrade Liu Shaoqi is the only organization in China dedicated to a comprehensive portrayal of Liu's life and career, and the largest institution to collect materials related to his roles as vice-chairman of China's central government and one of the top leaders of the Communist Party of China and the People's Republic of China.
Apart from the memorial museum, the Scenic Spot of Liu Shaoqi’s Birthplace comprises the former residence of Liu, a bronze statue square, a biographical exhibition hall about Liu with a period room restored to duplicate his office in Beijing’s Zhongnanhai, a local folk culture garden, and a merit-themed park.
